Human Rights & Women’s Health
On October 7 at 7pm in UCSB’s Campbell Hall, Direct Relief is hosting a free discussion with the former First Lady of Somaliand and visionary leader in women’s rights and women’s health, Edna Adan Ismail. A midwife by training, Edna Adan was featured in Nicholas Kristof’s book Half the Sky. She is founder and director of an innovative hospital in Somaliland. Westlake Village resident Maria Durant, a graduate of SET, is also the owner of Dance 4 Wellness. After giving dance lessons in her home studio, Durant is now in the process of moving to a larger space in Thousand Oaks to accommodate the growth of her business.
