This Saturday Leah, Karly, Claire and Danelle run 26.2 miles in the Santa Barbara International Marathon to raise money for SET scholarships.

In February 2007, June Snow enrolled in WEV’s Self-Employment Training (SET) course with a dream of bringing a renowned marathon to Santa Barbara, and 14 weeks later she graduated with a plan to make it a reality. For more information, and to show your support, click here!

Share Your Expertise and Inspire Our Budding Entrepreneurs!

Each season, guest speakers for WEV’s Self Employment Training and Business Plan Intensive course provide a unique and enriching experience for our clients by volunteering their valuable time and expertise with our budding entrepreneurs. Topics range from Promotion and Advertising to Business Finances.

Hearing directly from local resources provides our clients an opportunity to connect with professionals who can help them write a successful business plan. If you are interested in volunteering, visit our syllabus page where you can download an agenda and talking points specific to your area of expertise. Contact our Santa Barbara Program Coordinator, Karly Dowling, or our Ventura Program Coordinator, Leticia Sandoval, for more information.

 Axxess Books are Now Available!

2014 Axxess cards are now available through WEV’s office! For every $30 card purchased, WEV receives $10. WEV provided Santa Barbara Axxess with a loan in its infancy to help print the books — talk about coming full circle! Order yours here!

WEV is Hiring!

Would you or someone you know be a good fit to work at WEV? Several positions will become available between now and January 2014 — please visit our Jobs page to learn more!

Valerie Burns WILL Be a Breast Cancer Survivor

Unfortunately, there is no sick leave for the self-employed. SET alum and local business owner, Valerie Burns, is facing the challenge of overcoming breast cancer, with malignancies in both breasts — which is only seen in 5% of cases. Her incredible support team has set up a site here where you can help her with living and medical costs. We’re sending the biggest get well wishes to Valerie!
