Featured Artist
Beth Taylor

We chose Beth Taylor, owner  of Taylor Design, as our featured Santa Barbara artist because her creative eye  inspires others. Beth was a graphic designer for a local commercial real esta12x18_SBHarbor_Shells_72dpi 4te company, but decided it was time to start her own business. She graduated from WEV’s Self-Employment Training (SET) course in Spring 2012, and has already begun selling her vibrant digital prints. In the near future, she will be designing her own greeting card line! She takes photos to another level by  collaging her pieces in Photoshop and Illustrator. The walls in our office are brighter than ever! Read more.

Interested in featuring your art in our offices? Contact lsomers@wevonline.org for more information!

Think Big in Santa Barbara!

Keep Roundtables on Your Radar!

Being in business for yourself can be lonely. Roundtables will provide the education, feedback and accountability you need to continue moving forward.

The next Roundtables starts in September–claim your spot by emailing kdowling@wevonline.org.

Client Interviews Well Under Way!

During July, WEV staff will continue interviewing randomly-selected clients served during 2010 about their experiences and outcomes since participating in our programs.

All clients completing the 15-20 minute interview will be entered into a drawing for one of several wonderful donated prizes by local businesses like Silvergreens, Trader Joe’s, The Boat House Restaurant, C’est Cheese, lynda.com, Zhena’s Gypsy Tea, Fresco Café, Z Folio Gallery and many more!

As a client, your participation in the interview is the easiest way to give back to WEV, and your feedback helps us improve our existing programs, develop new programs, and inform the public (including potential funders) about the impact we’re making in the community.

If you’ve been selected, you’ll be hearing from either Amy Fletcher or Ester Trujillo very soon!

EXPERT’S CORNER

The following tip comes from Alyse Hart–frequent WEV guest speaker and founder of Sell it Like a Woman. Find out what selling like a woman actually looks like here.

Use these 5 questions next time you’re networking to seamlessly generate conversation while creating rapport with your audience:

1) How did you get into this industry/area of expertise?
2) How is the current political climate impacting your work?
4) What first got you interested in your line of work
3) What triggered you to take the leap of faith to start your business?
5) Are there trends you see coming in your business that are important?

Thanks for your insight, Alyse!
