Carpinteria’s Chocolats du CaliBressan is this year’s winner of the Women’s Economic Ventures People’s Choice Award. The award honors entrepreneurs who, when faced with disaster, showed the resilience necessary to stay in business, or chose to give back and help others. Though Jean Michel and Jill Carre have been through many challenges in their 30 years working together, the combined natural disaster of the Thomas Fires and the Jan. 9 debris flow was the first that took their breath away, according to a WEV press release. The Carres fought to protect what they built in their three decades in business, even while losing nearly a month of holiday sales. With a great support network they are determined to continue.
