Self-Employment Training FAQ's
How often are the classes held?
SET is offered in September and February. Orientation attendance is required and is offered monthly (with the exception of September and  February).

Where are the classes held?
Classes are held in Santa Barbara, Northern Santa Barbara County and Ventura County. For more information on specific locations, please contact us or visit our Orientations page.

How much does the class cost?
It costs WEV over $5000 to put a client through our 14-week course. As a non-profit, WEV can offer the course to clients for $2500. We offer a variety of payment options; come to an orientation to find out more.

I am taking the course with my partner, do we both have to pay the tuition?
Yes. You both will receive a complete curriculum, and the instructor will be working with both of you throughout the course.

Do I need a business idea to take the class?
Yes. Since the course takes you step by step through writing a business plan, it is neccessary to have a business on which to base your plan.

I am already in business, can I take the class?
Absolutely! Many of our clients come to us with goals of growing and improving their business. Writing a business plan is the perfect avenue for moving forward.

Do you offer classes during the day?
Our day-time class is offered in Oxnard on Wednesday mornings. The rest of the courses are offered during the evening. Since the majority of our clients work full-time, we have created evening courses to accommodate their needs.

We do not have child care available.

Yes, men can take WEV classes.

Loan FAQ's
How do I get a loan?
Complete loan information is available on our website. We answer your questions about loan amounts, fees, use of money and how to apply.

Do I have to take SET to get a loan?
Although loan applicants are not required to take the Self-Employment Training course, some business training assistance is required. Complete information on where to get assistance is available on our Business Loans page.

If I take the class, will I get a loan?
There is no guarantee that all students will get loans. Each loan applicant will be considered individually. Please see our Business Loans page for complete information.

A complete calendar of events is available on our website, please visit our Annual Calendar page. We do not currently publish a printed calendar.

I heard WEV offers grants and free money, is this true?
WEV does not give grants or free money. It has come to our attention that some publications have printed this erroneous information. We hope you didn't "pay" for it!

I have business attire to donate, can I donate them to WEV?
We thank you kindly for your generosity! A wonderful place to donate such items is an local non-profit called "The Good Hearted People, Inc.". The provide clothes to the homeless to help them obtain interviews and jobs. Tel: 962-2995, located at 911 De La Vina, Santa Barbara 93101.

Does WEV offer networking opportunities to local businesses?
By getting involved in some of WEV's programs and events, you will find yourself not only networking, but making friends and having fun. Perhaps you would be a great guest speaker to one of our classes, or would like to join the Friends of WEV. Maybe you would like to attend the Business of Fashion as a guest or sponsor, or even our Women's Business Awards as a guest or sponsor. Certainly, do put yourself on our mailing list so you can stay up to date on all of WEV happenings! Perhaps you would be a good fit for our Membership Organization called W! that brings local business women together for networking and support.

Alumni FAQ's
How can I get more involved with WEV?
We have several opportunities for you to get more involved! You might consider showcasing your product or service at the next Business of Fashion, or volunteering your time in our offices or at an event. We love to stay in touch with our graduates, so explore these opportunities today!

Can I buy a copy of the curriculum?
Additional copies of the Self-Employment Training curriculum are available to the public for $100, or $35 for the old curriculum. If we have extra copies you may purchase one by calling our offices at (805) 965-6073.

How can I get a copy of the Alumni Directory?
You may browse the online directory. This is a listing of the current W! members, and has replaced the printing of any directories.

Can I retake the course?
Certainly! We permit graduates to retake the course. If you graduated more than 1 year ago, we do require that you attend the orientation to enroll. Call our program assistant at 965-6073 ext. 100.
