WEV Offers Paid Summer Internship through Citigroup Grant
For the third year in a row, WEV has been chosen by FIELD (a project of The Aspen Institute) as one of only 15 organizations across the country to receive a grant from the Citi Microenterprise Researchers Program which will fund a paid full-time internship at WEV this summer. The program exposes students to the microenterprise development field, and assists organizations like WEV in collecting high-quality client outcomes data. As a grantee, WEV will select an intern to work with our staff to execute the survey project and analyze the collected data, and The Aspen Institute will bring all of the interns together for training in Washington, D.C. The internship is an integral component to expanding and improving our data collection techniques as well as providing the intern with a unique opportunity to build upon his or her knowledge and experience in their field of study. The internship dates are May 26-August 14, and WEV is now accepting applications for the position. The ideal candidate will have completed at least one year of graduate study in a relevant field. WEV is also hiring a part-time / temporary surveyor who will conduct interviews with our Spanish-speaking clients. Candidates for this position must be bilingual in English and Spanish. Each position is posted in detail on WEV's website: http://www.wevonline.org/pages/about-wev/jobs-at-wev.php

WEV Artist: Carol Carbine
Work on display in SB WEV offices from March - April

Carol has been working as a professional artist for 28 years and has lived along the central coast since 1993. She is a member of S.C.A.P.E. (Southern California Artists Protecting the Environment) and a board member of the Santa Ynez Art Guild. Carol's work has been described as having a wonderful sense of color and a keen eye for composition. Her paintings can be soft and endearing or strong with vigorous strokes of paint. Carol works in plein air that she feels gives an honest quality to capturing the light in a brief moment of time. "I am surrounded by rolling hills, twisted oaks, wild flowers, rivers and the ocean. It's everything an artist needs to be inspired, to interpret and enjoy nature at its best. What a banquet for a painter." Carol has a degree in fine arts from the University of Utah and has worked in adult education classes with Michael Drury and James Armstrong. Her oil paintings have been exhibited in many businesses and art galleries in Santa Barbara. She has shown her work at the Sunday Art Show along Cabrillo Boulevard for the past 14 years and continues to do so today.
